![]() ![]() Ice Age: The Meltdown is back! This time the DVD release includes a disc of bonus extras over and above the features listed on the back of the box. Audio tracks are available in Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) and Dolby Digital Surround (French and Spanish), with subtitles in English and Spanish. Gamers will find some entertainment and web links for them too, and the party crowd can dance to the sloth sing-along. There are also some bonus shorts ( No Time for Nuts, Crash & Eddie Stunts, and Lost Historical Films on the Ice Age Period), a featurette ( Silly Sid & John Leguizamoa), outtakes ( Crash and Eddie Blooper), trailers and some cross-promotional trailers. These include a commentary by director Carlos Saldanha, producer Lori Forte and the production team, a behind-the-scenes look at the animation process, an introduction to new characters and the marketing of the movie. But viewing the film is just the tip of the iceberg because there are a ton of other extra features as well. If your kids are having a Meltdown waiting for a chance to see Ice Age 2 again, then they are sure to give this DVD release a warm reception. When Sid opens a day camp for kids, he finds himself on the painful end of a pinata stick. Like the original Ice Age, this film is flush with slapstick violence played for comedy. While these opposing attitudes don’t lend themselves to immediate sparks between the hairy creatures, Sid persuades Ellie and her brothers to migrate with them, hoping the friendly female will eventually melt Manny’s frosty heart. Identity issues aside, however, the biggest disparity between Ellie and Manny is her fun-loving spirit and his stick-in-the-mud seriousness. And among other things, she’s oblivious to the obvious size discrepancy between her and her brothers, Crash (Seann William Scott) and Eddie (Josh Peck). Adopted by possums, the orphaned Ellie has adapted to climbing trees and sleeping upside down. The megaton mammoth has some quirky behaviors of her own. ![]() The game also centers around Scrat, who undergoes a series of misadventures to retrieve his acorn.Still, when Manny finally meets Ellie (voiced by Queen Latifah), he’s not so sure his problems are over. Based on the film of the same name, the game generally follows the protagonist, a woolly mammoth named Manny, and his friends and family as they seek to survive the upcoming flood of the valley. The player also has to help Scrat get loads of acorns in the special “Scrat Rush” levels. In the Game Boy Advance version, the player takes control of Sid, Manny and Diego as they help them try to escape the flood by guiding them through six puzzle levels. Unlike its Game Boy Advance-exclusive predecessor, Ice Age, Meltdown was a multiplatform release, available on Microsoft Windows, all major sixth-generation platforms and both seventh-generation Nintendo platforms, with the Wii port being a launch title in Europe. It is based on the film of the same name.
